30 Days of Me: Bel & Lou's Day 2

Posted by Bel ǀ The time is 10am here in Wellington NZ ǀ

After deciding that we would do this co-blogging thing, Lou and I then had the immense task of coming with a blog name. This played out via many emails ping-ponged back and forth, as is our way.

What about "Lady Bug"?

I imagine kinda black writing in a solid font with slight serifs/curlicues, against a nice strong red background. Very simple and effective. Not too cutesy, but still quite hot sauce. Sort of like your dress, but, you know, a webpage. (SNORT LAUGH).

Inter-hemispherical Musings?

These suggestions, and various others, were cast aside. NO JUDGEMENT IN BRAINSTORMING, TRACY.

The actual source of our blog name comes from a specific Ryan North's T-Rex comic. Last year my brother Ed was emailing through T-Rex on a daily basis and I was then forwarding on the truly loltastic ones to some toon-appreciative friends.

How convenient!

You'll note this one went round back in December 2008, and we started blogging in February 2009. Lou has a theory that a text went whizzing between us in late January which sorted everything out in a flash and motivated us to stop faffing and get writing. Here is a recreation:
Text to or from Bel and/or Lou:
Blog name: SASSY IS CONVENIENT. or [sic]. Yes?

Text to or from Lou and/or Bel:
YES.
The sic thing came in because we are both so pedantic about spelling and grammar and love to point out when people make glaring mistake in places where they shouldn't. Charming!

Et voila, the story of sic's origins. And an insight into why the veto-ed name 'Co-Continental Dependency' would have been appropriate too.

  1. Also possibly worth noting was the email to me, saying 'Lotte we're doing a blog together! Can you copy that picture of Lou's Pretty But Scared Legs and add Bel's legs too? For the bit at the top of the blog? Please?'

    And I said 'Yes'

And then I didn't do it.

Though about six months ago I did remember that I was supposed to draw this picture for you, and that it wasn't too late (probably).

But I still haven't done it.

    I'm so sorry.

  2. Hah, funny you mention that as I came across that email when searching for the email chain that led to the name! Had totally forgotten about it!

Well if you ever do do it (and it could be just drawing Bel legs and we can composite [composit?] them) it will still be most welcome!

  3. Oh yeah - that's why I drew the speech bubbles for the header instead!

Goodness I felt so crafty and proud of myself. "Bel, you're a real artist now, like Lotte." I said to myself ;)
